Problem Discovery

Outdated website and disorganized content scheme results in low user engagement.

To boost performance across their online platforms, the event had hopes to update their brand identity and overall tone for this year's event. Some of the goals of this project were as follow:

  • Upgrade the Brand Identity to be consistent and representative of this year's tone!
  • Rework the website to help streamline user engagement and interactions.
  • Market the event to local groups and encourage community involvement.
  • Consistently post on our online platforms and reach 1200 followers on LinkedIn.

Our Solution

Make YEG Startup Community Awards more playful, consistent, and updated!

The website is live through this link and is continuously being updated as the event timeline progresses so stay tuned for more updates to come!

The Process

Research & Ideation

Building up the brand's previous identity to be more fun, creative, and spontaneous!

Alongside other volunteers, I worked on creating various social media posts for the organization to upload across their platforms. I also took charge in developing a rough sense of the brand guidelines for the other volunteers to reference.

The art direction for this year's campaign is fun, playful, and closely aligning to the excitement of startups and entrepreneurship.
User Storyboarding

Drawing out the ideal scenario for users to join in on the YEGSCA fun.

In this scenario, we have our main user who is a startup owner looking to expand their connections and build credibility within the Edmonton community. At this stage, the goal is to understand the user pattern that leads them to access social media content and the website.

Defining Persona & Goals
"I want to connect with my local community as a new business owner."

Project Development

Working on Webflow to improve the user experience of the website.

During this project, I was guided by the Communications Team Lead for the site redevelopment direction. I updated the components on the site such as the navigation and footer. Much of my work during the development stage consisted of the following:

  • Remove outdated sections.
  • Improve text legibility and button interactions.
  • Create style consistency between pages.

Fix colour, layout, and style inconsistency on our website.

Create fun, illustrative, and playful graphics that support our brand mission to celebrate innovation and creation.

Project Takeaways

Adjust, adapt, and take on challenges as they come.

Working on this project has taught me to not be afraid of pushing my limits while also playing at my strengths! Some things that left me feeling accomplished are:

  • Managing a real client's website as a Webflow beginner!
  • Working alongside a team of marketing students to pitch and promote the event.
  • Receiving client feedback and incorporating those critiques into the redesign.

As this project is still ongoing, this page continues to be updated! Check back later for more data.
